Pikillaqta

A large Wari village, Pikillaqta was mysteriously abandoned in 1,100 AD and soon after set ablaze. Despite ancient attempts at arson, the site is still amazingly intact. You’ll wander the streets and plazas past the temples, communal buildings, homes and storage structures – some of the buildings are an impressive four stories tall!

Hire a guide or read up ahead of visiting. I thought it was just pretty weird architecture until the depth of devotion, engineering, and detail it represents was explained by my guide - who was passionate about it. Despite the BIG crowds, I ended up being moved by Gaudi's vision.

    We were there March, 2024.

We were there March, 2024. If you visit only one site in Barcelona, this has to be it. Make sure you get your ticket ahead of time or you may find yourself waiting a long time in line. We recommend you get your tickets for the late afternoon when the sun rays are low and shine through the stained glass windows. Guaranteed--you will remember the sight for the rest of your life, just take time and soak it in. It gets crowded inside so take your time. Yes, go up one of the towers. And, go to the basement exhibit to get the story about the Sagrada's building(not complete). Also, go across the street to the parks on both sides to get full views of the breadth of the structure(each side different). A wonder.

Compared with the exquisite houses Gaudi created, I was not thrilled by this cathedral. The tour company kept us waiting and waiting as it changed the person to guide us. And he was not knowledgeable or informing.

    Definitely, book a tour guide.

Definitely, book a tour guide. There is so much symbolism in the Sagrada that you may miss it if you go alone. Church services on Sunday that anyone can attend without paying an entrance fee (obviously).

Make sure you make reservations in advance to see this incredible structure that is still under construction. It's a favorite of visitors and quite crowded at times. Gaudi was a remarkable man. Be sure to visit the museum with a good video.

Spacious and clean. Well appointed furniture for a mid-range hotel. I liked that the hotel was close to the Sagrada Familia. The staff were over-the-top cheerful and helpful. Let us keep our bikes in our apartment so we could assemble them; helped us bring the bikes to the room; let us dispose of two large bike boxes (when I asked, the answer was ‘no problem, leave them in the room’). Available 24 hours. They really contributed to our stay.

More than anything else, I found the hotel staff exceptional. My wallet was stolen in Barcelona while in the plaza in front of the Sagrada Familia Cathedral. Both women (Mel and one other) at the reception were very, very helpful in talking to the Barcelona and Tarragona police, and helping file reports to them. They also gave me tel. nos. for reporting my stolen credit cards. They were also helpful with restaurant recommendations and directions. The location of the hotel was also the best.

The location is a little off centre but the hotel is right next to train/metro stations which can take you to the centre in 10 mins. The Sagrada Familia is a walking distance away with some eating options around the hotel without the touristy crowd. The room was very good with all necessary toiletries, but during our stay in April, the days were still a bit colder and there was no heating and the blankets were not warm enough. But the staff was helpful and gave us extra blankets.

Best hotel in my trip from 22 days. Big room with balcony. They let us checkin early when the room ready. Very clean and center location. 3-4 stops subway from every interesting point, train station, Sagrada familia, Barcelona cathedral and walking distance to La Pedrera and Casa Batllo. Fantastic hotel within ten minute walk of the La Sagrada Familia Church. The breakfast was delicious, hearty, with plenty of options for anyone with any specific dietary needs. Exceptionally clean. Safety conscious with public areas requiring key to enter. Nice exercise room. Nice little pool on an exceptionally beautiful rooftop deck. I could have stayed here longer if possible, but unfortunately, we had to move to next stop on vacation!

The location in Barcelona is excellent - can walk to Sagrada Familia, Casa Mira, and many cafes and restaurants. The breakfast is wonderful. The staff are incredible - very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They really are what makes Hotel Well and Come great. We were sad that we didn't get to say goodbye to Claudia and a few others who were off on the day we left.
